The Visionary, Larry Baer Who Led To the Rise Of Giants

Larry Baer is the recipient of numerous industry awards including Major League Baseball’s Man of the Year in 2007, the San Francisco Business Times Business Leader of the Year Award, the Bay Area Business Journal’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award and the Greater San Francisco Chamber of Commerce’s Man of the Year Award.

Larry Baer was one of the major forces behind the Major League Baseball-sanctioned players’ sharing plan (which contributed to a record $1 billion in payments from baseball to players in 2017). It included helping to establish the Revenue Sharing Definitions Committee (RSDC), which allocates revenues from the major league minimum salary and revenues from national media contracts.

The SF Giants CEO was one of the key architects of the MLB-MLBPA joint venture player agreement, which took effect for the 2017 season. Prior to that, he also served on the major league negotiating team and negotiations committee for the collective bargaining agreement with the players’ union (2011-2014), and was a key player in finalizing and implementing many of the issues that were negotiated.

Larry Baer, Giants CEO serves as the club’s representative on Major League Baseball’s four Regional Club Committee’s and is a member of the committee to negotiate the sale of foreign media rights. He is also a member of MLB’s Business Ventures Committee and is involved in the management of key MLB ventures, including the online encyclopedia,, MLB At Bat and Play Ball technology, At The Ballpark, the MLB Network, MLB Properties and Major League Baseball Advanced Media.

During his career with the Giants, he has represented the organization in many of the club’s most notable transactions, including the sale of the club to John Mara and Steve Tisch. Larry Baer is a past recipient of the Sports Business Journal’s Peter Ueberroth Business Leader of the Year Award (2002).

In 2011, Baer signed an exclusive 10-year contract extension with the Giants. He has since helped lead the charge to renovate AT&T Park, make a five-year strategic marketing plan with Disney for AT&T Park, and land the “Like a Boss” advertising campaign with Toyota.
